NLL Week Six: Stealth suffers first loss

Minnesota drops Washington, 16-12; Riggers take out Rock, 10-8

Edmonton Rush at Toronto Rock

Blaine Manning scored five goals, keying the Rock to a 16-7 victory over the Rush.

Toronto (6-1) led 5-1 after one quarter, paced by two goals each from Manning and Stephen Leblanc. The Rock tacked on nine second-half goals, including a 3-0 fourth-quarter shutout.

Manning (5 goals, 5 assists), Colin Doyle (2 goals, 6 assists) and Leblanc (4 goals, 3 assists) led the Rock offensively. Scott Stewart had two goals and two assists for Edmonton (3-3).



Boston Blazers at Rochester Knighthawks

Craig Point scored two fourth-quarter goals as the Knighthawks edged the Blazers, 11-9.

Nine of the game's twenty goals were scored in the fourth quarter, during which Boston (3-4) rallied to tie the game at 8-8 before Shawn Williams and Point pushed Rochester (4-3) back out to a two-goal lead.

Jamie Rooney scored with 57 seconds left, reducing the Blazers' deficit to one, but John Grant sealed the Knighthawks' victory with an empty-netter in the waning seconds.

Grant (3 goals, 3 assists), Williams (2 goals, 4 assists) and Cory Bomberry (1 goal, 5 assists) each tallied six points for Rochester. Sean Morris (3 goals) was among three Blazers to put up three points.



Buffalo Bandits at Philadelphia Wings

John Tavares scored two goals in his first appearance of 2010, leading the Bandits to a 13-11 victory over the Wings.

Philadelphia (1-5) jumped out to a quick 5-0 lead (three goals by Kyle Wailes, two by Geoff Snider) but gave most it back in the final four minutes of the first quarter and settled into a 7-7 halftime tie.

As has often been the Wings' problem over the years, the game was ultimately decided in the third quarter, during which Brett Bucktooth netted shorthanded and power play goals and Buffalo (2-5) snagged a 10-8 lead. The Wings twice rallied to within a goal but never again tied the score.

Mark Steenhuis led all scorers, tallying eight points for Buffalo on two goals and six assists; Tavares, who missed six games with a lower body injury, recorded six points (2 goals, 4 assists). Wailes had seven points (4 goals, 3 assists) to pace the Wings.



Washington Stealth at Minnesota Swarm

Tim Campeau scored four goals as the Swarm handed the Stealth its first loss of the season, 16-12.

Washington (6-1) led just once in the game, 1-0 on a Lewis Ratcliff tally. Minnesota (2-4) "Swarmed" the offensive end of the floor throughout the first quarter, firing 12 shots at netminder Tyler Richards and scoring on five of them.

Minnesota took leads of 8-6 at halftime and 13-8 after three quarters en route to the upset victory.

The Swarm's Aaron Wilson led all scorers with eight points, scoring two goals and dishing out six assists. Cam Sedgwick paced the Stealth, scoring no goals but handing out seven assists.



Toronto Rock at Calgary Roughnecks
Sunday, 6:30 PM - Saddledome

Jeff Shattler scored two fourth-quarter goals, pushing the Roughnecks past the Rock, 10-8.

Toronto (6-2) led 7-6 entering the fourth quarter but surrendered the first three goals of the period -- Tracey Kelusky's third of the game, tying the score, and Shattler's pair, which put the Riggers ahead 9-7.

Rob Marshall scored with exactly four minutes remaining in regulation, pulling the Rock to within one goal, but Mike Poulin stood firm in goal for Calgary (3-3) and Dane Dobbie iced the game with a late empty-net tally.

Kelusky finished with a game-high six points (3 goals, 3 assists). Colin Doyle (3 goals, 1 assist) and Stephen Leblanc (1 goal, 3 assists) had four points each for the Rock.
