Gavin Prout chosen as Player of the MonthNine goals, 24 assists in March; Merrill chosen as Rookie of MonthR.A. Philly Outsider's Guide Editor in Chief Colorado Mammoth forward Gavin Prout was named today as the National Lacrosse League's Player of the Month for March. Meanwhile, the league announced that Portland LumberJax defenseman Brodie Merrill is the Rookie of the Month. In five games last month, Prout tallied nine goals and 24 assists, helping the Mammoth to a 3-2 record. Four of his nine goals were scored on the power play, and another while shorthanded. Prout started March red-hot, dishing out six assists in each of his first two games and five in his third. Although his numbers dipped a bit near the end of the month, he recorded at least five points in every game. Merrill, meanwhile, led the LumberJax to four wins in six games last month, totalling eight goals, twelve assists, and an eye-popping 82 loose ball recoveries along the way. Merrill's eight goals include two shorthanders. This is Prout's third Monthly award, following Rookie of the Month selection in February 2000 (while with New York) and a Player of the Month selection in January 2004. Merrill is a two-time recipient, having won Rookie of the Month honors last month, too. GAVIN PROUT BRODIE MERRILL -30- |
