Champion's Cup Final to air live on ESPN2Saturday, 13 May, at 6:00 PM EasternR.A. Philly Outsider's Guide Editor in Chief The National Lacrosse League officially announced today what had been expected for some time -- that the Champion's Cup Final will be televised live on ESPN2. As first reported in the Outsider's Guide News and Notes column in January, NLL has swung a deal to get the championship game on American national television for the second straight season, following last year's time-buy on NBC. The championship game, now billed as the 2006 RBK NLL Championship Game presented by Edge Active, will be played on Saturday, 13 May, at 6:00 PM Eastern. "We’re pleased to have ESPN2 televise our championship game to a live national audience," NLL commissioner Jim Jennings said. "ESPN2 will allow us to reach our current US fan base as well as mainstream sports fans who are finding the excitement of professional indoor lacrosse." ESPN2 has televised tape-delayed Major League Lacrosse games the past few summers, but this will be the first indoor lacrosse action on the self-proclaimed Worldwide Leader in Sports since the 1999 final, in which Toronto won its first title with a 13-10 victory over Rochester. Two questions remain unanswered: Who's televising the game in Canada, and what happens if the host arena is unavailable during the announced time slot? Stay tuned. -30- |
