Dan Dawson chosen as Player of the WeekLeads Sting into playoffs; Dietrich, Greenhalgh honoredR.A. Philly Outsider's Guide Editor in Chief Arizona Sting forward Dan Dawson today was named as the National Lacrosse League's Overall Player of the Week for Week Sixteen. Buffalo Bandits goaltender Steve Dietrich and Philadelphia Wings forward Sean Greenhalgh was also honored for their play during the final weekend of the regular season. Dawson, also named as the Offensive Player of the Week, scored seven goals and assisted on five others in two victories over San Jose. Friday night, at home, Dawson tallied three goals and three assists in a 16-13 victory which clinched a playoff berth for the Sting. The following night, he struck for four goals and two assists (12-7, Arizona). Dietrich, the Defensive Player of the Week, made 39 saves on 46 shots faced in Buffalo's 8-7 victory over Philadelphia on Friday. The win clinched home-floor advantage throughout the playoffs for the Bandits, so Dietrich was held out of Saturday's rematch in Philadelphia. Greenhalgh, though, did play in both games, earning Rookie of the Week honors on two goals and five assists -- a goal and two assists in Buffalo, and a goal and three assists in the Wings' 14-11 victory the next night. This is the third Player of the Week selection in Dawson's career, each time coming as an Overall-Offensive pairing. Dietrich is an eleven-time recipient, while Greenhalgh has been honored six times. -30- |
