The Toronto Rock wasted little time in finding a new head coach, convincing Philadelphia Wings defenseman Glenn Clark to retire and come home to Ontario.

Clark becomes the fourth head coach in team history, following the legendary Les Bartley (1998-2003), Ed Comeau (2004), and Terry Sanderson (2004-2006).

Sanderson was fired by the Rock two days ago.

"In my mind, [Toronto] is the number one place to be," Clark said. "To be able to come back and start again with this organization is fantastic.

"It’s the only job that would have made me consider retiring."

Clark played the first eight seasons of his career with the Rock, beginning with the Ontario Raiders in 1998. A year later, he followed the team north to Toronto, where he won five NLL Champion's Cups (1999, 2000, 2002, 2003, and 2005).

Clark signed with Philadelphia last summer as an unrestricted free agent, with the Wings looking to capitalize on his defensive talents, experience and leadership.

"Glenn is a first class person and we will greatly miss him," Wings president Russ Cline said. "Toronto is a great coaching opportunity for him and we wish him all the best."

In 101 career games, including playoffs, Clark scored 33 goals, dished out 41 assists, and scooped up 628 loose balls.

Clark, affectionately nicknamed "The Professor" during his playing days in Toronto, is a physical education teacher in Ontario.
