Cam Woods dealt to Chicago for player, pickSan Jose gets Callum Crawford, 2nd-overall pick for ex-D'man of YearR.A. Philly Outsider's Guide Editor in Chief Days after flipping three expansion draft selections for two players and a first-round draft pick, the Chicago Shamrox cemented their defense with the acquisition of Cam Woods from the San Jose Stealth. In exchange for Woods, the 2004 National Lacrosse League Defenseman of the Year, San Jose receives young forward Callum Crawford and Chicago's first-round selection in the entry draft, second overall. Woods' career began with the debut of the Stealth franchise in 2000, then known as the Albany Attack. He appeared in all 109 games in team history, tallying 41 goals and 74 assists. In addition, Woods has 849 loose ball recoveries over the past seven years, including 94 last season. "We are really excited to secure such a high caliber player as Cam Woods," Shamrox head coach Jamie Batley said. "Woods is one of the best defenders in the NLL and his leadership and experience will anchor our defense for the upcoming season." Woods was the Stealth's captain all three seasons the team has played in San Jose. Crawford, meanwhile, comes off a rookie campaign during which he appeared in five games, scoring four goals and dishing out four assists. A 2005 second-round entry draft pick by the Calgary Roughnecks, Crawford was selected fifth-overall by Chicago in last week's expansion draft. "Crawford is a big right-handed kid who we’re very excited to add to our roster," Stealth general manager John Mouradian said. "This move gives us another young player and enables us to get the second-best player in the upcoming entry draft." The trade is Chicago's second in less than a week, following a five-player trade the day after the expansion draft, in which the Shamrox acquired forwards Mat Giles, Jason Clark, and the twelfth-overall pick in this year's entry draft. -30- |
