Portland to host 2007 All Star GameLumberJax to host midseason classic in just their second seasonR.A. Philly Outsider's Guide Editor in Chief The National Lacrosse League announced today that the Portland LumberJax will host the 2007 NLL All Star Game, on Saturday, 10 March at 7:00 PM Pacific (10:00 PM Eastern).
The game, to be held at the Rose Garden, will be televised live on Versus, the network currently known as OLN. "The city of Portland and the fans of the LumberJax have shown enormous support for their team after only one season," NLL commissioner Jim Jennings said. "It is with great honor that we award the opportunity to showcase the best lacrosse players in the world in Portland in 2007." Indeed, that Portland would host the All Star Game so early in its existence was an idea LumberJax owner Angela Batinovich rejected as recently as during this past season. "Although I have publicly said that I would not hold an All-Star Game for at least a few more years, the Jax fans have proved this city most definitely deserves a game," Batinovich said. "With just one season behind us, our loyal fans have been a constant support for us. I know that having the game here in Portland is the right choice for both us and the league." The league also unveiled the All Star Game logo, a takeoff of the LumberJax logo. The All Star image features the Portland skyline and Mount Hood in place of the team's iconic lumberjack. As in past seasons, the All Star Game will pit the top players from the Eastern Division (Buffalo, Chicago, Minnesota, New York, Philadelphia, Rochester and Toronto) against the best of the Western Division (Arizona, Calgary, Colorado, Edmonton, Portland and San Jose). -30- |
