The Minnesota Swarm yesterday named Duane Jacobs as its new head coach, his first such position with a National Lacrosse League team.

Jacobs, who was an assistant coach with the Buffalo Bandits, replaces Adam Mueller, who resigned last month to coach the expansion New York franchise.

"We are pleased to hire Duane to coach our young team and look forward to continuing to build on the success we achieved last season," Swarm general manager Marty O'Neill said.

Minnesota comes off an 8-8 season in 2006 and a playoff berth, a campaign which ended, ironically, in the Eastern Division semifinals at the hands of the Bandits.

In his two seasons with Buffalo, Jacobs spent one season each as the offensive coordinator and defensive coordinator.

Prior to that, Jacobs played eleven seasons in the MILL and NLL (1993-2003), breaking in with the Detroit Turbos and finishing in Buffalo.

Jacobs is best remembered, though, for his eight seasons with the Rochester Knighthawks, with whom he won his only championship (1997).

In 109 career games (including playoffs), Jacobs scored 181 goals and dished out 186 assists, for 369 points.
