The 2006 National Lacrosse League Entry Draft will be held on Wednesday, 13 September (8:00 PM Eastern) at The Theater at Madison Square Garden, the league announced today.

The Theater, which hosts the annual NBA Draft and formerly hosted the NFL Draft, is located within Madison Square Garden, which will be the part-time home arena for an expansion New York franchise, set to begin play in 2007.

"With the world’s greatest lacrosse players coming to New York City this season, we decided it was the right time to host the draft here in New York, and at Madison Square Garden," NLL commissioner Jim Jennings said.

"Fans will see the future stars of the game enter the league at our draft, and then return to play at MSG during the upcoming season."

As in past seasons, the thirteen NLL clubs will be selecting from among players who have completed or forfeited their eligibility to play collegiately in the United States, Canadian junior lacrosse players who are 21 years old and not playing NCAA lacrosse, and anyone younger than 21 who declares their intention to be eligible for the draft.

Also like previous drafts, the 2006 show is open to the public. Free tickets are available by contacting Andrea Cannella at acannella@nll.com by the end of this month.

The New York team, still unnamed, presently owns the first-overall pick after winning a coin flip against the expansion Chicago Shamrox, who subsequently traded the second-overall pick to San Jose.
