Stealth doubles up with Benesch, Sorensen atop draft

San Jose becomes first team ever to exercise 1st-, 2nd-overall picks

Sitting in the unprecedented position of owning the first two picks in this year's National Lacrosse League Entry Draft, the San Jose Stealth helped its offense and defense alike, selecting Ryan Benesch and Kyle Sorensen.

Benesch, captain of the Kitchener (OLA) Junior A team this summer, is described as small but talented, with Sorensen an impact defenseman.

Before long, the Stealth had a third first-round selection, netting goaltender Paul Dawson with a pick acquired from Arizona -- the team Dawson's older brother, Dan, plays for.

In between, though, Buffalo grabbed All-American forward Brett Bucktooth of Syracuse University and Philadelphia quickly scooped up Geoff Snider, the highly-regarded faceoff specialist from the University of Denver.

The draft was held at The Theater at Madison Square Garden, which also is home to the annual NBA Draft and formerly hosted the NFL Draft.

Full draft results follow.
