NLL to hold permanent Sting dispersal draft

Boston to select first as Arizona shuts down again

Technically, the Arizona Sting returned from a one-year suspension of operations the day after Buffalo won the 2008 NLL championship.

A few days later, the team was mothballed again, shutting down for the 2009 season and perhaps forever.

As a result, the NLL will conduct another dispersal draft for the Sting, the second such allocation in less than eight months.

In the wake of last fall's collective bargaining negotiations, in which the 2008 season was cancelled and uncancelled within a week and a half, the Sting and expansion Boston Blazers were granted special-case suspensions of operation.

The teams, whose suspension would be lifted as soon as the 2008 season ended, had the option to recall its players upon returning to active status.

Boston, which will play in 2009, opted to draft a whole new roster and will do so some time this summer. Arizona, however, elected for a recall, so the players dispersed in November were returned to the Sting in late May.

With the Sting pulling out again, the league will conduct a dispersal draft for the players' permanent rights this Monday at 2:00 PM Eastern.

As usual, teams will draft in reverse order of finish in the two-round draft, with Boston selecting first, followed by Edmonton, Chicago, Toronto and Rochester.

The Blazers have reportedly fielded trade offers for the top pick but are expected to stand pat and select Dan Dawson, who led the Portland LumberJax on an improbable run to the NLL Championship Game after finishing the regular season 6-10.

Selection order and a list of available players follow.
