Shawn Evans wins second straight Player of the Week awardFour goals, six assists in Rochester's OT win over BuffaloNLL Press Release Rochester Knighthawks forward Shawn Evans was named today as the National Lacrosse League's Overall Player of the Week.
Evans won the Overall Player of the Week Award for his four-goal, six-assist effort in the Knighthawks' 15-14 overtime win over the Buffalo Bandits this past weekend. The victory was Rochester's third straight after a 1-5 start and moved the club to 4-5 and fourth place in the East Division. Evans was also named the Offensive Player of the Week. Evans won both awards two weeks ago after a fourteen-point outburst against Toronto. Because of the All Star Game, there were no Players of the Week named last week. Teammate Sandy Chapman won the Defensive Player of the Week Award. Chapman scooped up seven loose balls and tallied two assists, including an assist on the game-winning goal in overtime for the Knighthawks. Despite the loss for Buffalo, Bandits player Pat McCready won Transition Player of the Week honors. McCready scored two goals, assisted on three others and picked up eight loose balls. Minnesota Swarm forward Kevin Buchanan was named NLL Rookie of the Week. The Ohio State product scored two goals and tallied five assists as the Swarm won an important road game at Philadelphia, 13-12, to improve to 5-5. It was Minnesota's third straight win, all of which have come on the road. -30- |
